At Tzedek DC, pro bono attorneys and volunteers are essential partners in our work to advance economic justice and expand access to justice for DC residents. During Pro Bono Week, we are proud to recognize the many attorneys and legal professionals who share their time, expertise, and commitment with our clients and community.
Whether conducting client intakes, providing direct legal representation, supporting trainings, or lending specialized expertise, pro bono volunteers help make our work possible. In 2025 alone, pro bono attorneys and other volunteers contributed services valued at more than $2,774,000 in support of Tzedek DC's mission and work.
This week, we are highlighting several of the dedicated attorneys and firms who have partnered with us and sharing why they choose to volunteer with Tzedek DC. Their stories demonstrate the impact that skilled volunteers can have in helping DC residents pursue greater financial security and achieve their goals.
Interested in getting involved? Attorneys can support Tzedek DC through pro bono representation, intake assistance, community education, policy advocacy, and other volunteer opportunities. Orrick
Inaugural Recipient, 2026 Pro Bono Partner of the Year Award
Since 2023, Orrick attorneys have played a critical role in helping DC community members take their first steps toward legal stability through our intake clinic.
Over 70 Orrick lawyers have conducted over 340 critical intakes, helping identify legal issues, gather essential documents, and connect individuals with appropriate legal advice and representation. Orrick conducted an intake for a DC resident being contacted by debt collectors, which allowed Tzedek DC attorneys to advise him on his rights and how to negotiate a settlement.
In another instance, Orrick began the process with a resident whose car was damaged by her insurance company while trying to unlock it, and she ultimately received $5,000 in compensation after working with us.

“Through Tzedek DC, I’ve represented individuals who suffered thousands of dollars in uncompensated damages from unscrupulous businesses. In one case, we successfully obtained treble damages against a negligent tow truck company under the DC Consumer Protection Procedures Act. Then, when the company refused to pay, we recovered the full amount of the judgment by locating and attaching the company's assets.
Tzedek DC has given me one of the most precious opportunities for a lawyer: to help people one-on-one when they are struggling. It’s been an honor and a joy to work with my clients to get them the financial relief they need, and I’m grateful to Tzedek DC and its very skilled attorneys in helping us get there.”

“I worked with Tzedek DC’s Associate Director, A.J. Hong-Huber, representing a woman who had been defrauded by her tax preparer. It was a good chance to put my law degree to use helping folks who needed it. It was a straightforward representation for me, but it made a big difference for the client.”
