Naji Mujahid Fenwick
Staff Attorney

Naji Mujahid Fenwick is Tzedek DC’s Disabilities Community Project Staff Attorney.

Naji is a 3rd generation Washingtonian who grew up mostly in Prince George's County, MD. He also twice graduated from the University of the District of Columbia, first with a Bachelor’s Degree in History (2013) and second from the David A. Clarke School of Law (2016). At Tzedek DC, Naji represents disabled individuals in consumer and debt collection legal issues, supports policy advocacy focused on disability rights, and leads legal education-focused community outreach targeted to the disability community. Naji’s lived experiences, including as a person who is neurodivergent (ASD/ADHD), bring an important lens to his work.

Immediately prior to joining Tzedek DC, Naji served as a Staff Attorney at Philadelphia Legal Assistance (PLA) Medical-Legal Community Partnership Unit, where PLA embeds attorneys in low-income healthcare facilities. In this capacity, he represented clients, including clients with disabilities and health challenges, in a variety of legal matters, including Family Law, Landlord-Tenant Law, Social Security, and Public Benefits.

Earlier in his career, Naji served at the Defender Association of Philadelphia as an Assistant Public Defender, where he became a staunch advocate for bail reform in Vital Strategies as their Program Manager of Police Assisted Diversion (PAD), where he collaborated with the City of Philadelphia’s Office of Criminal Justice to work on harm reduction approaches in law enforcement, including strategies to reduce overdose by diverting people away from arrest to supports and services.

Prior to becoming an attorney, Naji was an activist-journalist with the DC Radio Co-op and co-producer of the weekly show 'Voices With Vision' on WPFW 89.3fm in Washington, DC. As a journalist, he focused on issues of racism and injustice related to crime and punishment, with a particular focus on state repression against revolutionary movements, freedom for political prisoners, and the so-called “War on Drugs”.

Naji continues to volunteer with The Jericho Movement and Imam Jamil Action Network and advocate for the release of Imam Jamil al-Amin (H. Rap Brown), who has been unjustly imprisoned for almost 25 years.
